Kenya Ports Authority has rolled out a digital scheduling link between Mombasa's container terminal and Standard Gauge Railway freight operations, intended to shorten the time boxes spend in the yard before being loaded onto inland-bound trains.
Under the new system, rail slot bookings are matched against vessel discharge schedules so that high-priority cargo can be flagged for direct rail movement toward Nairobi and onward to the Northern Corridor markets of Uganda, Rwanda and eastern DRC.
Port officials said the change is part of a broader push to reduce container dwell time at Mombasa, which has been a recurring concern for shippers moving goods along the corridor.
